Synephrine is a natural alkaloid found in bitter oranges (Citrus aurantium) and is one of the most popular legal stimulants in weight management supplements. Synephrine works primarily through beta-3 adrenergic receptors, accelerating lipolysis (fat breakdown) in fat cells and increasing basal metabolic rate. Unlike ephedrine, synephrine does not significantly affect heart rate or blood pressure at therapeutic doses, making it a safer alternative.
Synephrine is significantly safer than ephedrine because it selectively targets beta-3 receptors and does not significantly stimulate the heart or blood vessels. Studies show that 50 mg of synephrine does not meaningfully raise heart rate or blood pressure. However, synephrine should not be combined with high caffeine doses without medical approval.
The recommended dose is 10-50 mg of synephrine per day, split into 2-3 doses. Always start with the lowest dose (10 mg) to assess tolerance. A popular approach is 20 mg in the morning and 20 mg before training. Do not exceed 50 mg per day and avoid taking it in the evening, as it may disrupt sleep.
Synephrine and caffeine are one of the most popular fat-burning combinations. Studies show that taken together, they increase energy expenditure more than either alone. However, the combination increases cardiovascular load, so keep the caffeine dose moderate (100-200 mg) and monitor how you feel.
