Shilajit is a dark, tar-like substance formed over thousands of years between high-mountain rocks through the decomposition of organic material. It contains over 80 minerals and fulvic acids — compounds that improve nutrient absorption into cells and act as powerful antioxidants. In Ayurvedic medicine, shilajit has been used for millennia to boost energy, slow aging, and increase physical endurance.
Shilajit supports energy production in mitochondria, improves nutrient absorption through fulvic acids, and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Studies show that shilajit raises testosterone levels in men, improves sperm quality, and supports cognitive function. Fulvic acids in shilajit help minerals and vitamins reach cells better, increasing the effectiveness of other supplements.
The recommended shilajit dose is 300-500 mg of purified extract per day, containing at least 50% fulvic acids. Take in the morning on an empty stomach, dissolved in warm water or milk. Start with 100-200 mg and increase gradually. Raw shilajit should be consumed in smaller amounts (pea-sized portion). Results can be expected after 4-8 weeks.
Quality shilajit must be purified of heavy metals and contaminants and contain at least 50-60% fulvic acids. Prefer lab-tested products with third-party certification. Genuine shilajit dissolves completely in warm water without residue. Avoid products with added fillers — pure shilajit is highly concentrated and dark.
Purified shilajit is generally well tolerated. Some people may initially experience mild gastrointestinal discomfort. Unpurified shilajit may contain heavy metals and other contaminants, making quality control critically important. Shilajit is not recommended for gout (may raise uric acid levels) or alongside iron supplements without a doctor's approval.
